Open Forum Monday

Open Forum Monday Todays post is a bit different from my regular posts. As we get closer to application deadlines I know that your anxiety level is on the incline. As a way to help with your tension headaches, I propose the following: instead of me posting a topic and you responding, lets make a list of questions that you feel you REALLY need answers to ASAP. Here are the rules: Make sure your question is general enough to be of help to others that read the Blogs. (If it is VERY specific to you please send me an off-line email.) Limit yourself to no more than TWO questions. (One question with two parts = two questions.) The one question with 34 parts? FORGETABOUTIT! If someone else asks the question that you were going to ask, let me know. Those will be the questions that I answer first. Finally (for this week only) Ill batch the questions and reply twice daily. So to get this started, Ill post a question that I received many times while on the road: What do I do at the EC interview? Why is it important? Are MIT interviews at all like the one in the movie Risky Business? (Not really a question I got on the road, but humorous nonetheless.) Lets see what youve got!

Copies of past finance dissertations can be found in your University library. However, before you even get to this stage you need to choose your question. The question you eventually chose for your finance dissertation must show a clear objective, and in order to do that your topic needs to be well researched. If you have a vague question then your finance dissertation will itself turn out to be vague, as well as being more difficult and more time-consuming to research. You will need to focus on a specific part of your finance course. Coming up with a topic and title for your finance dissertation is often difficult, but it is also vital as it sets the tone for the work you produce thereafter; a narrowly defined topic helps you to stay focused. It is best to choose a topic which you are passionate about and interested in. Once you have decided upo n your topic and what your question will be then you can go about finding a similarly titled finance dissertation in your University library to study. It is essential when working on your finance dissertation that you create a timetable for you to work to and then make sure that you stick to it. This will help you to obtain the relevant source material, and at the same time will be an insurance against things going unexpectedly wrong. You need to start by carrying out thorough research on as many journals and research papers on your chosen subject as is possible. Then you need to identify what the different positions and viewpoints of the academics are on your chosen subject. Once you have identified what the key areas of opinion are then this will help you to produce your plan for your finance dissertation. In a finance dissertation you need to be able to show that you have the ability to produce a serious academic analysis of your subject. As well as focusing on your specific topic, you should also be able to give a broad overview of your degree course. Only producing simple descriptions of the arguments and the topic will not be enough in a successful finance dissertation, and will not show that you have gained a thorough understanding of the issues and concepts of your course. A successful finance dissertation should be full of analysis, critical evaluation and discussion of your subject. It is of vital importance that you manage to show what you have learnt. You need to show evidence of thought and insight, as well as evidence that you have a good grasp of the relevant concepts. A finance dissertation tests your ability to present a sustained academic argument in a clear, logical manner. Your finance dissertation must show that you are confident in using the relevant scholarly appar atus necessary to support your argument. * When looking at your completed finance dissertation there are several points which you need to check in order to avoid losing marks for silly mistakes. Your finance dissertation will more likely than not need a title page and a page of contents, and there is likely to be other vital information which needs to be included at the start of your finance dissertation. If necessary you need to produce tables or charts of relevant data in your finance dissertation. At the end you should include bibliography of the sources used. As mentioned before your finance dissertation needs to be thoroughly referenced throughout. Stylistically it is important that you avoid colloquialisms, or sloppy grammar. You should always ensure when writing your finance dissertation that you stick to the thread of your central argument. Ideally paragraphs should be approximately five or six sentences long, and should have good linking words and phrases. When writing you should try as far as possible to avoid personal language such as I or my. By sticking to a plan and by demonstrating a thorough knowledge of your subject area, as well as an original and compelling conclusion, you can produce a high quality finance dissertation.

Individuality And Conformity In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray...

If you are in a room where everyone else has something in common except for you, what do you do? Maybe pretend to share their ideas. Maybe leave the room. But generally there are very few who would face the negative attention that is created by situations such as this. No one ever wants to be the ‘odd man out.’ Yet, without controversy how can people grow to have established morals and motivation in life? This is exactly what Ray Bradbury was trying to explain in his novel, Fahrenheit 451. His main character, Guy Montag, starts as a government pawn, a fireman who had the job of burning books. He blends in to society until one day he meets a young girl, who for the first time in his life makes him ask ‘why.’ Through his struggle of finding†¦show more content†¦These men were all mirror images of himself! Were all fireman picked then for their looks as well as their proclivities?†(Bradbury 33) Bradbury’s visual imagery is demonstrated her e by creating the rough looks of these firemen. After working for years as a fireman, this is the first time that Montag looks around and really sees the world around him. The detail that they all looked the same yet their heritage shows, displays that originally these men had their individuality, but now their work has morphed them into thoughtless disciples of their profession. The difference in Montag is that he seems to be the first one that realizes what is happening around him. Until this turning point, he was just like the rest of them; all of them were content in the simple lives that they lead. Since they were just like everyone else there was no worries about conflict or arguments because these men had the same morals and ideas. Beatty the fire chief explains this further to Montag when he starts showing signs of independence. He says, â€Å"We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but everyone made equal. Each man the image of every other; then all are happy, for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against.† (Bradbury 58) Beatty’s dialogue displays how although some people may realize that they haveShow MoreRelatedFahrenheit 451 Analysis798 Words   |  4 Pageslessons that are more real than you would think. Effects of Tv on Children Free Essays

We have all heard the incessant reports about the damaging effects of too much time spent in front of a television. The bad habit of watching hour after hour of television usually begin early in a persons life and people who have the habit of spending a lot of time watching too much TV are usually overweight. They also end up with other weight related problems during their life. We will write a custom essay sample on Effects of Tv on Children or any similar topic only for you Order Now Watching TV is especially harmful for small children. A study shows that when toddlers watch too much TV, they are more likely to have attention problems later on during their childhood and possibly for the rest of their life. This can have an impact on how well a child is able to perform in school and in other areas of their life. Allowing the television to be a baby sitter for your infant is not a good idea. The long hours of watching cartoons can be better spent doing some other activity. When I was a child a had a very small patch of the yard that I turned into a garden. I took dry beans from the packs in the kitchen and planted them in the garden. It was a wonderful feeling to watch them grow from a bean to a plant. We never ate anything from my garden, but having it gave me something to look forward to outside of the house, instead of doing nothing but sitting in front of the TV all day. Even today, more than 30 years later, I still do not watch (much) TV. There are a lot of TV stations that show programs that are very educational and a person can benefit from these programs. But, a child under the age of three should not be allowed to sit in front of the TV for a long time, the study states that no more than 30 minutes per day is enough. The long stream of continuous violence shown on TV has a negative effect on a child and adults, as well. Watching hours of violence, fast food commercials and the other nonsense – will have an adverse effect on anyone who watches it. It is not good to live in a society that doesn’t blink an eye when someone has their head blown off. When you allow the television to raise your children, by the time they are 21 years old, they would have seen hundreds of thousands of violent, dehumanising acts on the screen. What could the after effects of that produce? How long should your child watch TV per day, you decide. Just be prepared to deal with the consequences of too much TV.
